Horse Trailer Cleaning Tips
If you’ve been handling horses, you know that a horse trailer will get dirty ─ and fast! It’s easy for grime and odors to accumulate quickly when you put a large animal in a small space. Regularly cleaning out your trailer is a must. It’s tough to know how to get started and clean a horse trailer in the best way possible. That’s why we’ve put together this informative beginner’s guide, so read on to learn more!
Get Your Supplies
The products you’ll need to keep your horse trailer looking pristine are very different from your common household cleaning ones. The best place to find the necessary tools is at an auto parts shop. There, you’ll find chrome-wheel polishing kits, brushes, and more. If you have a specialty livestock store near you, you can get your supplies from there. Before you get down and dirty, make sure you have all the supplies at hand.
Clean the Floor
The dirtiest place on a horse trailer is the floor. To keep the muck under control, you should clean the floor frequently. Make a mixture that is one part bleach for every ten parts of water and cover the floor with it. Let it soak for a minimum timespan of ten minutes. While you’re waiting, focus your attention on sprucing up your mats. To rinse the floor easily, tilt your horse trailer at an angle. You can park it on sloping ground or raise the front end to achieve this.
Not only do you need to clean the floor, you also need to ensure that it’s dry! Before you put any items back inside, make sure that the trailer is dry. An optional step is to sprinkle a light layer of baking soda on the floor. This works as an anti-acidic product and neutralizes horse urine, reducing the damage to your floor.
Corners and Hinges
The tiny crevices and tight nooks in your horse trailer can end up becoming a magnet for debris. The key spots that get dirty quickly in your trailer and need a deep clean are the areas where the floor meets the wall and door joints.
The Mats
Horse trailer mats soak up a lot of grime. They require a fair amount of elbow grease to be cleaned thoroughly. Start at the top left corner and work your way down. Use the steady-pressure nozzle or power hose to blast away all the gunk.
